“Tom Schreiner and Matthew Crawford have assembled an outstanding array of Baptist authors drawn from diverse disciplines of biblical studies, historical theology, church history, theology, and spiritual theology. Combined they give us one of the most important volumes on the Lord’s Supper that traces its practice and theological understanding throughout history, and certainly clarifies our own practice, theology, and worship. Highly recommended.”

“This volume is a welcome addition to the rather sparse academic literature on John Flavel. Embry offers us both biography and historical theology, setting Flavel’s life and teachings in the context of their time. Yet the value of this book is not confined to students of history and biography. Systematic theologians and pastors will find it helpful in assessing the view of one dimension of the Spirit’s seal as an experience beyond initial conversion—a view represented by figures such as Richard Sibbes (1577–1635) and David Martyn Lloyd-Jones (1899–1981). Furthermore, godly Christians will be edified by Flavel’s remarkable life and reflections on the Spirit’s work, whether or not they agree with his particular flavor of the Reformed experiential tradition.”

Adam Embry, Help! I Can’t Get Motivated. (Day One, 2011).
I wholeheartedly recommend this series of booklets by Day One!
• They explain the very real problems that people face in life from a solidly biblical perspective.
• They describe these problems experientially by using true stories and illustrations.
• They present the biblical solution to these problems, making it clear how God wants to solve them by changing the hearts of the people involved. These booklets accomplish this through Word-based, Gospel-driven applications to life and by encouraging people to make the changes that will enable them to walk in faith and obedience to Christ.
• I will certainly use these booklets as homework for my counselees and will recommend them to my students.
